The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal traffic crash that claimed the life of a Fayette County man early Tuesday morning in northeast Fayette County. The crash, reported at 8:25 a.m., occurred on U.S. #62NE near the intersection of West Road in Madison Township.
According to Sheriff Vernon Stanforth, a 2013 Dodge Dart operated by Travis A. Putney, Age 28 of Washington C.H., Ohio was traveling southbound on U.S. #62NE and traveled left of center into the path of a northbound 2015 Freightliner semi-tractor trailer operated by Andy Then, Age 33 of Reading, Pennsylvania. The two vehicles collided head-on in the northbound lane of U.S. #62NE before coming to rest against the guardrail along the west side of the roadway. Fayette County Coroner Dr. Dennis Mesker identified and pronounced Mr. Putney dead at the scene. Mr. Then was transported from the scene by Fayette County EMS to Fayette County Memorial Hospital for treatment of reported minor injuries. Both vehicles sustained heavy damage in the crash and were towed from the scene.
Members of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit were called to the scene and are conducting an investigation of the crash. Also assisting at the scene were members of the Sheriff’s Rescue Unit, Bloomingburg-Paint-Marion Fire Department, Tri-County Fire Department (Madison County), the Ohio Department of Transportation, and Barker’s Towing and Recovery Service.
U.S. #62NE remained closed for several hours while crews worked to clear the wreckage and debris before re-opening the roadway.
