Senior Nutrition Program


The Highland County Community Action Organization, Inc. Senior Nutrition Program and Americorps Vista Volunteer, Renee Lykins invites seniors 60 years of age and older to their congregate site for lunch.The nutrition site serves a hot, nutritious meal Monday through Friday at 11:30AM to seniors who would like to get out and join in good fellowship and make new friends during lunch.

The Senior Nutrition site is located at 1230 Greenhills Drive in Greenfield. The driveway is located across the street from the library. Transportation is provided for participants who live within the city limits of Greenfield.

Americorps Vista (Volunteers In Service To America) is a national service program dedicated to helping fight poverty in the United States since 1965.

Boating Safety Education Course


BOATING SAFETY EDUCATION COURSE OFFERED IN PORTSMOUTH SEPT. 2010
 
 
  PORTSMOUTH – The Ohio Boating Education Course will be offered Saturday, Sept. 18, 2010 from 8 A.M. to 5 P.M. at ShawneeState ParkMarina in SciotoCounty, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Watercraft. The fee for the course is $5 which covers the cost of course materials. Interested persons may register to take the course by calling the Portsmouth Watercraft Field Office at 740-353-7668.
   The Ohio Boating Education Course covers a variety of boating topics such as the navigation rules of the road, boating and personal safety equipment, navigational signage, Ohio boating laws and much more. Approximately 13,000 Ohioans complete an approved boating safety education course each year.
   Ohio law requires any person born on or after January 1, 1982 to be able to show proof they have successfully completed an approved boating safety education course if they operate any watercraft powered by a motor greater than 10 horsepower. Care-A-Van

On Wednesday September 8, 2010 Fayette County children in the area of Washington Court House and New Holland will be able to receive immunizations at the Fayette County Health Department Mobile CARE VAN. Appointments are not necessary.

                                  New Holland Kirk’s Furniture 11:00 – 12:00 pm
 
A parent or legal guardian must accompany the child to be immunized or make prior arrangements. It is requested that the parent bring the child’s immunization record to the van. Appointments are encouraged for your convenience since other services may be going on at the same time.    Adult tetanus-diphtheria shots are also available.
 
Regularly scheduled clinics on Tuesday afternoons by appointment will continue at the Fayette County Health Department. 
 
Cholesterol/blood sugar screenings are free for Fayette County residents once a year. Twelve (12) HOUR FAST IS REQUIRED. Call the health department for an appointment at 335-5910.
 
Blood glucose screening (blood sugar only ) for walk-ins is available at the health department on Wednesday mornings from 8- 10am. An eight hour fast is required for this.
These services are provided by the Fayette County Health Department and the United Way of Fayette County. 

Jeffersonville Boy Scout Troop 67


JEFFERSONVILLE BOY SCOUT TROOP 67 WILL BE HAVING THEIR 8th ANNUAL RUMMAGE SALE DURING THRILL IN THE VILLE OCTOBER 30 & 31!!!!
 
Boy Scout Troop 67 is asking for donations for our 8th annual rummage sale. Boy Scout Troop 67 has been in Jeffersonville since 1936. This is the biggest fundraiser Boy Scout Troop 67 does to raise money for campouts, supplies, etc. Boy Scout Troop 67 currently has 46 Eagles Scouts in our Eagle Nest. We are hoping that you have some items that you would like to donate for our annual rummage sale to help make it a success. We will be holding our rummage sale in one of the classrooms in the old Jeffersonville School (small brick bldg) over Halloween Weekend. Please contact Glenn Rankin or Tracey Rankin Coe at 740-948-2520 or email her at traceyln75@yahoo.com. We will be glad to stop by and pick up any items you would like to donate and these items are tax deductible. Please no clothes or exercise equipment.

Boy Scouts of American Pinewood Derby


Boy and girls age 3 and up and adults of all ages join us on Saturday, October 30, 2010 for the Thrill in the Ville Cub Scout/Celebrity Pinewood Derby. The first race will be held at 12:30pm, in the old Jeffersonville School (brick bldg)in Jeffersonville. Registration for the race will start at 12:00pm. Only official Boy Scouts of America Pinewood Derby Kits may be used for the race. Car kits are $5.00 each and can be ordered thru emailing Tracey Coe at traceyln75@yahoo.com or calling her at 740-948-2520. Included with each car kit will be the official rules.
 
Registration fee for the race is $5.00 and can be paid the day of the race. Awards will be given for first, second, and third place in each group and first, second and third overall champion winners. The first, second and third place winners from each group will race in the overall champion winners race.
 

2010 Thunder in the Hills

on Saturday, September 11th from 6:00pm to 11:00pm. Donation at the door, located at US Rt. 22 West (next to Doug Marine Motors), music provided with door prizes. All money raised goes to the Save The Legion Fund.

Care-A-Van


The Care-A-Van will not be running on schedule the week of September 6th. The Care-A-Van will be at the Highland County Fair on Tuesday, September 7th through Friday, September 10th from 12:00pm till 6:00pm each day.

Services provided each day will be cholesterol and blood pressure checks. Also, flu shots will be available for adults ages 19 and over for $20.00. On Wednesday they will also do immunizations along with blood pressure, cholesterols and flu shots for adults.

            The Washington Court House City School District is proud to announce that Dr. Byers W. Shaw, Jr. (Bud) is the first inductee into the Academic Hall of Fame. Dr. Shaw will be inducted at a ceremony in the Washington Country Club on Monday, September 20, 2010. The public is invited for a time of greeting at 4:30 p.m. followed by the induction ceremony at 5:00 p.m. The public is also invited to remain for the banquet to follow at 5:30 p.m. at a cost of $20.00 per person. Reservations for the banquet can be made by calling the Country Club at 335-3780 and indicating it is for the Hall of Fame Banquet. Payment can be made at the door. Reservations should be made by September 16th
            Dr. Shaw is a 1968 graduate of Washington High School where he was very active in many activities including sports and student government as well as being inducted into the National Honor Society. Following high school, Dr. Shaw attended Kenyon College and then Case Western Reserve School of Medicine. His internship and residency were completed at the University of Utah before he moved to the University of Pittsburgh to study transplant surgery. 
            Dr. Shaw then moved to the University of Nebraska and helped develop their transplant department into the number two program in the United States. He eventually became the Chairman of the Department of Surgery until retiring as a surgeon in 2007. He currently serves as Director of the Advanced Computer Application Program which helps serve doctors and nurses dealing with transplant patients.
            Dr. Shaw has won many awards and much recognition including The International Liver Transplantation Society Distinguished Service Award in 2005. He has published numerous articles on surgery techniques in transplantation.
            Washington Court House City Schools is extremely proud that 1968 graduate Bud Shaw has helped the lives of so many people as a surgeon. For this reason and his many other contributions to medicine the District is honored to make Dr. Shaw the first inductee into the Academic Hall of Fame. Dr. Shaw will be the featured speaker at the induction of members into the Washington C.H. City Schools Academy of Scholars also being held on September 20. It will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Washington C.H. City Schools Auditorium.
